The Critical Difference
Penetrating chest trauma presents a high risk of tension pneumothorax—a rapidly fatal condition caused by air trapped in the pleural cavity that collapses the lung and restricts cardiac return. Traditional chest seals or improvised flutter valves frequently fail due to lost adhesion from blood and sweat, or become clogged when blood and exudate block a single valve port.
The Russell Chest Seal® delivers dependable, high-efficiency chest trauma management. Built on a patented hydrogel matrix base with an integrated low-profile 4-aperture valve, it allows air and blood to escape the pleural cavity continuously without letting outside air back in—facilitating lung re-inflation and protecting the casualty during extended care.
